Description
Forensics is the application of medical facts to legal issues and proceedings. A forensic examiner is a medical professional who by virtue of education, experience, specialized training, and knowledge is qualified to render expert opinions in response to questions regarding adherence to standards of care and acceptable parameters within their profession and areas of expertise.
Demand for specialized postgraduate training in the field of forensics has grown over the past three decades. This specialized training/certification assures the contemporary doctor remains knowledgeable and competent to address the constant and complicated interaction between a Doctor of Chiropractic and the legal system. The neuromusculoskeletal specialist (or equivalent), with training and competencies in forensics is positioned to provide expert advice and testimony on subjects including:
- Clinical case review
- Expert testimony
- Ethical, professional, and legal issues
- Administrative roles and functions
- Independent Medical Examinations
Certification
- Completion of 100 hours approved foundational coursework
- Demonstration of competency via written and practical examinations
Examinations
- Part 1 Written multiple-choice questions
- Part 2 3 case practical examination. Cases to be sent in advance
MOC
- 12 hours continuing education in forensic/clinical topics approved by IANM annually
