September 2017 President’s Letter

Academy President Letter
September 19th, 2017

From the Desk of J. R. Brandt DC, MS, FACO
Academy of Chiropractic

Dear Fellows,

I am pleased to relate more good news for your membership with the Academy. NCMIC has announced it will be giving a 5% discount on premiums for doctors taking 8 hours of credits from CDI Australia and the University of Bridgeport. The subject matter includes the following:

  1. The Acute Locked Lower Back: Diagnosis and Management

The acute locked back is a clinical challenge. A patient in severe pain is hard to examine, so how do you make the right diagnosis? When should you treat, and when should you order an MRI?  This learning program covers the key aspects of diagnosis and management and provides example inter-professional communication to the patient’s MD.

  2. Acute Torticollis in the Adult: Diagnosis and Management

Torticollis is common, but it is not a diagnosis. It is simply a symptom that can arise from a wide range of different conditions. So, what is truly happening?  This learning program outlines the differential diagnosis of the acute neck presentation and provides example inter-professional communication to the patient’s MD.

  3. The Chronically Stiff and Painful Neck: Diagnosis and Management

Why do some individuals complain of perpetual neck stiffness and pain, yet they have a normal range of motion? Would manual treatment help if they have a hypermobile or unstable neck?  This learning program covers the differential diagnosis of chronic neck pain, explains many of the underlying mechanisms, and looks at efficient management.

You can go to the UBCC website for further information. These hours can be used for yearly recertification.

More good news, efforts are being made for new classes in different areas of the United States. One that is confirmed is sponsored by the Illinois Chiropractic Society.  This information can be reached at;  The classes are provided by the University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic. This will include the 50 classroom hours required of the 300. The remaining hours (250) are on line classes. I will keep you updated regarding announcements of additional class venues.

The people of Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia and the Carolinians must remain in our thoughts and prayers.
