Academy President Letter
May 19th, 2020

From the Desk of Kim Skibsted DC, FIANM(us)
International Academy of Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine

Greetings Fellows,

There are several Academy projects and activities to bring you up-to-date on and explain the updates.

The IANM would like to welcome Dr. William Valusek to the Executive Board as an Advisor. Dr. Valusek has been involved for many years with the specialty. He had been the treasurer and worked with the American College of Chiropractic Orthopedists helping with the convention. His wife Rose Marie worked alongside many of these conventions. We welcome him and his knowledge of the specialty for his organizational and financial skills.

We have developed an online practice test for candidates beginning the certification process. The practice test is administered by Test Run, a Canadian Corporation specializing in certification board practice tests. In our education for certification, the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE) outlined problems with “test anxiety” at the specialist level. Having the opportunity to see what the examination is will help ease that concern. The practice test questions are retired from the current testing cycle and will not be used again for the primary examination, and outline areas and what to expect. Kudos to the Examination Committee for their effort! To maintain an active program, the Examination Board would like to introduce Dr. Greg Priest as its newest member. Dr. Priest has had years of experience with the specialty in various capacities. He will be the new Chairman of the Test Run Committee and maintain the database. Welcome Dr. Priest, we look forward to your contribution.

The IANM annual Board meeting happened at the end of last month. All but two of our international members were online for the conference! A great deal of “housekeeping” items and issues were completed. The current Board remains as last year. We are expanding our social media footprint, and soon you will see it in action. We will have general information that will be “out there” in different capacities. We are also developing an advertising campaign for IANM members to use for their mail lists or within their communities. It will be direct for you, the member. More details will be coming as the Communications Committee has been working on several issues. Please visit our Facebook page often:

Dues will remain the same for 2020-2021. Thank you for your membership and your continued support. The IANM will continue to make this more valuable as time goes on. This effort includes the value of recertification and maintaining your specialty credential.

Currently, we have all specialty candidates scheduled for July, but one will be late June. The current examination schedule is as follows:

July 9, 11, 2020 Part I Exam Window

Nov 5-7, 2020 Part II Exam Window

Feb 4, 6, 2021 Part I Exam Window

The Examination Committee thanks you for participating in the Job Analysis. The JA is vital for the specialty. The JA will show parties interested in our scope of activity as well as the blueprint for the examination process. If you have not completed it, please take a few minutes to do the survey!

We have been asked to notify IANM membership of the American Chiropractic Associations Faculty Symposium scheduled for Saturday, June 13th, beginning at 9 AM EST. You can see the schedule, topics, and presenters here:

We are also working on expanding our sub-specialties. There is nothing set at the moment, but hopefully, by this time next year, we will have one, two, and maybe three! This expansion may have the potential to expand your practice and interests, and is one of several items that we are “incubating” for the specialty!

We are truly grateful to those who have helped this year. So much has been accomplished, and so much is still on the table. Thank you to each of you who are involved, and our membership for encouraging us.

Please enjoy the beautiful weather we have this time of year!

… Where your achievements matter”
