The Master of Science project that Northwestern Health Sciences has been working on and making the necessary changes has now been sent to the higher learning commission. Significant revisions have been made. This information will be presented at the American College of Chiropractic Conference (check with April 28-30 in Las Vegas, Nevada. I will get the final outline from NWHSU sometime before the conference.

I’m pleased to announce that we have 3 presentations for the Congress of Diplomates on Saturday April 30th. This will be the best presentation of cases we have had for years. Fellows Drs. Dave Swensen and Stan Bacso will present. Our 3rd presenter will be NBA standout, Mr. Jonathan Bender.

Jonathan was touted as the next Michael Jordan or Magic Johnson, he was one of the nation’s top-ranked high school basketball players, and one of a select few awarded the McDonald’s High School All-American prestigious John R. Wooden MVP Award. Selected 5th overall into the NBA at just 17 years old, Jonathan was forced into an early retirement from the NBA by chronic knee pain.

I had the opportunity to meet Jonathan and hear his story that was presented to a conference I attended last year in Baton Rouge, LA. Fresh off a successful NBA come back after rehabbing from what was described as a career ending condition, I was amazed by Jonathan’s story and the journey that led him to create what I’m sure some will say is the most prolific contribution in recent times to the rehabilitation, fitness, athletic training and conditioning protocols. If you work with athletes on any level… high school, college, professional… competitive or the week-end athlete, you won’t want to miss Jonathan Bender’s presentation and demonstration during the Congress of Diplomates meeting. I have to admit when he was asked if he would like to present I thought it a lark, but he accepted. You will find his story compelling.

When you have a few minutes at the conference, please come up and introduce yourself to Academy Board members, we want to hear from you. Ideas and suggestions are welcome, this is your Academy and we are working to make it worth your while to be a member.

Courage is rightly esteemed the first of human qualities because it is the quality which guarantees all others. Winston Churchill
