July 2017 President’s Letter

Academy President Letter
July 2017

From the Desk of J. R. Brandt DC, MS, FACO
Academy of Chiropractic

Hello Fellows,

I’m pleased to announce on behalf of the Academy that Dr. Tom Lotus from the Chicago area has joined the Academy Board as an Alternate. He is a Diplomate of the Academy. He has a two-year term ending in 2019.

I have been alluding to some significant changes in the structure of the Academy Board. It was completed in April 2017.

The Academy has been separated into an executive and an examination component. One of the requirements for NCCA certification is to have this division. The Examination Board is connected to the Academy but not under the day to day workings and direction of the Executive Board. The Examination Board will be expanding the pool of members including item writers, reviewers, and judges. Kudos are given to Drs. Tom Wicks, Mark Nelson and Kurt Olding who are at the point of these changes on behalf of the Examination Board.  There are no modifications in Part I and Part II protocols based on this change.

This separation gives the Academy a wider latitude and opens other endeavors and possibilities as we consider other areas we feel will help the specialty and membership.

The last 2017 Part I online examination will be given once more later this month. Part II is set for September 30th at Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, MN. The 2018 testing schedule has not been released.

Thank you for your questions and comments. I appreciate some of the ideas that I get to help the Academy. I have not mentioned this for several months, but if you have an interest in participating in the Academy, drop me an e-mail.
