Academy e-letter
Volume 5, Number 5
May, 2006

From the Desk of:
James R. Brandt DC, FACO
President, Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists

Good Morning Doctor:

The Academy has been very busy since we last communicated. Our educational mission is expanding. We have had a successful Diplomate examination and a Board meeting during this interval time frame.

I am pleased to announce 9 new D.A.C.O.’s from the Portland examination. All of the candidates did a very good job. Congratulations! The Board is in preparations for the October 14, 2006 examination at NWHSU in Minneapolis. If you have an associate, friend and colleague or know of someone that has not completed testing for their orthopedic Diplomate, please tell them about this opportunity.

The Academy Board has voted to expand by adding two additional Alternate/Associate members. We are pleased to welcome Dr. Julia Bartlett from Bloomington, Minnesota and Dr. James Demetrious from Wilmington, North Carolina. This change was needed as the Academy is focusing on areas to strengthen our specialty and provide more opportunities for the Orthopedic Diplomate. This may be expanded in the future as the need(s) arise. This newsletter and those to follow will start to outline our progress and the positive benefit for membership. Additional committees are going to become more active and productive.

We are in the process of changing the website design, this is going to take some time, but hopefully the changes will be done in the next few months. Some things on the website will include:

  1. Membership list – Name, address and office telephone numbers only.
  2. FAQ’s section
  3. Working to get the site to accept credit card payments for products, fees and dues
  4. Committees and chairpersons

The Board has voted to raise Academy dues to $94.00 effective 09/01/06. This is the second dues raise in 26 years. Our expanding mission has necessitated this very modest increase. We continue to meet our obligations regarding financial support for education and research. The Academy so far this year has given a total of $2200 in unrestricted and restricted grants for research and scholarship. We have some very bright researchers and institutions that benefit from the Academy membership grants. . . Thank you!

I am looking forward to seeing you in Maui next month. If you haven’t registered yet for the ACCO conference, go to for information. I enjoy our conversations and the ideas that you give the Academy. We have acted on some of these suggestions at the last Board meeting.

Remember those on Memorial Day who have given us this great country called the USA!
