From the Desk of J. R. Brandt, DC, FACO President, Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists

Good Morning Doctor:

The Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists, Inc. is completing its fourth year! Looking back we have traveled a long way in a very short period of time. However, the future of the Academy looks even brighter. We have an ever expanding membership that has volunteered to participate with Academy business in many different ways. This help is appreciated, but we will need more volunteers for projects in 2006-2007. Please e-mail me if you are interested. If you have e-mailed me in the past, please do again, there is now an improved data base. When you contact me, please use your current e-mail and office/home telephone number, and include the best time to contact you during the day or evening would be appreciated. I will call you.

I am excited to inform the membership that the Academy Diplomate examination resulted in 18 new orthopedic Diplomates of the Academy. The DACOs were from Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC), National Health Sciences University (NHSU), Northwestern Health Sciences University (NWHSU), Palmer College of Chiropractic (PCC), Southern University College of Chiropractic (LACC) and Western States Chiropractic College (WSCC). The Minneapolis examination resulted in an 85% pass rate. Four of our recently certified DACOs participated as standardized patients; this included a representative Diplomate (recent DACO) from the College of Chiropractic Orthopedists (C). A total of 9 new Diplomates were involved with the examination. Go to the website and see the photo gallery for this examination.

The Diplomate examination testing process and the DACO credential is a product only of the Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists, Inc

Significant changes are being planned for the website. The first to take place is now available on the site. You can pay your dues by using your credit card. Soon payment for ordering pamphlets, re-credentialing and the Diplomate examination will be available online. The ACCO provides the Academy a time slot in their convention program for our presentation of papers. The next symposium is to be held in Maui June 2006. Currently there are 2 papers scheduled for presentation. Watch for the ACCO mailer as to dates, location, registration information and telephone numbers.

Please visit our website sponsors. The Academy appreciates their participation and support.

Academy re-credentialing must be from CCE accredited colleges or university programs. We have been asked if “on-line” hours would qualify. Yes, if they follow the same criteria as out lined on the website. Hours that you are not sure about, would have to be reviewed by the re-credentialing committee to see if they qualify. You can visit the website to get more information and the forms needed.

Thank you to all who have made a difference this past year. There are so many who have done so much to assist the Academy. Thank you to the members who have participated with articles, the examination process, membership and all other aspects of our Mission. I have a very special thank you to Cheryl and Ed at FCER for all their help.

From the Academy Board to all: Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah. May your new year be happy and prosperous.
